18.0 Utility Computing Hosting Centers
A utility computing hosting center allows an organization to provide resources or services to customers where the resources or services are custom-tailored to the needs of the customer. Typically, supporting true utility computing requires creating a hosting center with one or more of the following capabilities:
- secure remote access
- guaranteed resource availability at a fixed time or series of times
- integrated auditing/accounting/billing services
- tiered service level (QoS/SLA) based resource access
- dynamic compute node provisioning
- full environment management over compute, network, storage, and application/service
based resources
- intelligent workload optimization
- high availability, failure recovery, and automated re-allocation
