The Head Node

The Head Node's Role in the Cluster

The head node is the main node in a Moab Cluster Builder cluster. It takes care of the OS provisioning, network management, job submission and control, and scheduling. This node is the heart of the cluster and facilitates compute node communication and job processing.

In a standard Moab Cluster Builder installation, the following networking services are configured and started by default:

  • TFTP for network booting / provisioning
  • NFS for shared home folders
  • LDAP for user directory services
  • DNS for host names
  • DHCP for IP address assignment
