I suggest the variable should be changed to TEMPDIR or PBS_TMPDIR or
easily at configure step because it can interfere with $TMPDIR variable of
and netscape on a NOW farm and this can be very annoying for beginners.<br>

I think users need to be educated about the meaning of TEMP.
They tend, however, to think about it as "additional storage they can use"
which it is NOT.
TEMP has always be under the influence of sudden removal, be it on Solaris
or on RedHat with tmpwatch.
