that's what I guessed. You should probably deinstall the libtorque2
package provided by Ubuntu 12.04 (it's ancient) and its
dependencies. But make sure it's not used by somebody else :-) You'd also
have to make sure that other custom compiled software (like e.g. OpenMPI)
was not linked against the old libtorque, since deinstalling would definitely
break it then.

Probably the correct libtorque.so.2.0.0 is also in /usr/local/lib. So in
order for that one to be found, the best way would be to set a correct
LD_LIBRARY_PATH in the trqauthd boot script.

A better option is to build a debian package that integrates properly
with the OS or use pre-built packages from e.g. Qlustar (currently has
torque 2.5.13 only, but will support latest 4.2.x in addition pretty soon).
