Hi John

Try to do something more verbose, say:

 > echo "hostname;date" | qsub

to generate output text in STDOUT and perhaps STDERR
[two files $PBS_JOBID.[oe] ]

To get output on the screen, you need to launch the job
interactively, i.e. qsub -I,
although 'sleep' will never say a thing!
