But in the meantime, it's appled on top of the EPEL 2.3.x SRPM, with
the 2.4.11 tarball added to the relevant SOURCES location and
"rpmbuild -ba filename.spec".

Which RPM based distribution are you using? RHEL or CentOS or SuSE or what?
