my additions would be:

I think since the early Linux 2.5.X days (if not even 2.4!) the file-max is
automatically adjusted and does not resemble a HARD limit as it does on
*BSD. IIRC, however.

I think you should definately add something about configure-option
--disable-filesync ! I was having terrible problems without it.
