[torquedev] Should --enable-syslog be standard ?

Hi folks,

Given the number of problems that come up for which the answer seems to be 
"build with --enable-syslog and see what errors you get" is it worth turning 
that on by default ?

Or is it not portable enough to be relied upon ?
