Hi,

I am trying to set up a reservation that will stop jobs running on one a
subset of old nodes when submitted through a particular mpi queue.
We have node001 -> 140 old nodes and 141 -> 310 new nodes.
I want to only allow jobs on the mpi queue to run on the new nodes 141 ->
310.

# 2010-03-04: A reservation that restricts the MPI queue plus others to new
nodes 141 -> 310.
SRCFG[mpi-viglen] PERIOD=INFINITY
SRCFG[mpi-viglen] CLASSLIST=mpi,q1d,q2d,q7d
SRCFG[mpi-viglen] STARTTIME=00:00:00 ENDTIME=24:00:00
SRCFG[mpi-viglen] HOSTLIST=node14[1-9],node1[5-9].,node[2-3]..
SRCFG[mpi-viglen] ACCESS=SHARED

# 2010-03-04: A reservation that restricts other queues but not the MPI to
old nodes 001 -> 140.
SRCFG[nompi-cvision] PERIOD=INFINITY
SRCFG[nompi-cvision] CLASSLIST=q1d,q2d,q7d
SRCFG[nompi-cvision] STARTTIME=00:00:00 ENDTIME=24:00:00
SRCFG[nompi-cvision] HOSTLIST=node0..,node1[0-3].,node140
SRCFG[nompi-cvision]
HOSTLIST=node0[0-4].,node05[0-7],node059,node0[6-9].,node1[0-3].
SRCFG[nompi-cvision] ACCESS=SHARED

I am seeing very weird behaviour than when the cluster is empty it works and
schedules the jobs on node141->310.

from showres:
ReservationID Type S Start End Duration N/P
StartTime
0.10               User -   -00:06:33    INFINITY    INFINITY    1/1    Thu
Mar 11 13:32:08
.0.11               User -   -00:06:33    INFINITY    INFINITY    1/1    Thu

*.0.2                User -    -3:21:14    INFINITY    INFINITY  128/1024

.0.3                User -    -3:21:14    INFINITY    INFINITY  110/440  Thu

However, I do not understand what the 2nd last column in setres is actually
showing as it flips to lots of N/P to 1/1 ?

ReservationID Type S Start End Duration N/P
StartTime
*.0.2                User -   -00:02:07    INFINITY    INFINITY    1/1
Thu Mar 11 13:48:35
.0.3                User -   -00:02:07    INFINITY    INFINITY    1/1    Thu
Mar 11 13:48:35*
.0.0                User -   -00:02:07    INFINITY    INFINITY    1/4    Thu
Mar 11 13:48:35

It appears that when the cluster is full maui will allow it to run on the
older nodes 001->140.

Can anyone explain this behaviour and explain how to stop it?

Regards,

Dug
