If you are using MySQL then you need to make sure that
your table types are set to InnoDB.

We got caught out by this as the default in Debian (when
we installed) was MyISAM and the Gold scripts to create the
tables didn't specify InnoDB as the table type.

Without InnoDB the transactions that Gold uses won't work.
