For the client log files I suggest not making the log files centrally
located for the very reason you have run into. Put them in
/var/log/.... on each system where gold commands run and make the
permissions 1777.

victor at login5:$ ls -ld /var/log/gold

drwxrwxrwt 2 gold root 4.0K 2011-02-23 22:31 /var/log/gold/

victor at login5:$ ls -l /var/log/gold

total 68M

-rw-r--r-- 1 gold tug71 195K 2011-02-23 22:31 gold.log

-rw-r--r-- 1 gold tug76 9.6M 2011-02-23 20:12 gold.log.1

-rw-r--r-- 1 gold tug76 9.6M 2011-02-23 04:07 gold.log.2

-rw-r--r-- 1 gold tug76 9.6M 2011-02-23 00:10 gold.log.3

-rw-r--r-- 1 gold tug76 9.7M 2011-02-22 19:31 gold.log.4

-rw-r--r-- 1 gold tug76 9.6M 2011-02-22 15:37 gold.log.5

-rw-r--r-- 1 gold tug38 9.6M 2011-02-22 13:45 gold.log.6

-rw-r--r-- 1 gold tug76 9.6M 2011-02-21 20:23 gold.log.7

Subject: [gold-users] Gold daemon hanging

Hi,

I am facing an issue with gold. Gold daemon is hanging and
then no gold commands are working.

The issue was found was with log file (gold.log and goldd.log). It seems
to having issue with file lock.

Currently both log files are in central location. so my question is :

1. ) Is it possible for us to keep the log files locally?

2. ) Which all user write to gold.log and goldd.log, whether its only
the gold user or all the users who are running jobs ?

As a temporary solution currently what I do is kill all gold commands
which are hanged, remove the gold.LCK file, rotate gold.log and
goldd.log and start the gold process.

Please suggest workaround or solution for such issue,

Any kind of input is appreciated.

             Best Regards,
             Vaishali Dolas
